And how to keep them aesthetical intriguing? Are there samples in architecture or art that keep puzzling you in terms of how they were created? Concrete Branding

Blitz Beton Workshop 2002 - Concrete Branding Investigation of the branding capacities of architectural objects. Or how can architectural objects enhance identities and feelings of belonging for clients, passer-bys, the city and the objects themselves. 2002 concept, coordination & management, lecturing, publication Concrete Branding Documenting the Blitz Beton Workshop Concrete Branding. Rotterdam, August 2002filmOkke van den Broek & Maarten VeermaneditingSiebe BakkerEnglish / Dutch assignmentInvestigation of the branding capacities of architectural objects. Or how can architectural objects enhance identities and feelings of belonging for clients, passer-bys, the city and the objects themselves.Ideas will be tested in models and finally in scale 1:1 objects, both made out of concrete. The tactile characteristics of the designs and how these influences the branding capacities will be the main focus besides of course formal, functional and contextual aspects. Branding operates on at least four levels. At the level of externals; shops, manufacturers, institutions, ideals, etc. At the level of the process, the making of, the experience, the context. At the level of the object concerning the temporary, material, tactility and form. And also at the level of the (end)user; giving stature to the passers-by, exhibiting the accidental engagement, facilitating unforeseen desires. It is not unlikely […]

Fondant Architecture

Blitz Beton Workshop 2001 - Fondant Architecture The scheme of the Blitz Beton Workshop 2001 was simple: design the missing plinth for the building of TENT.. An assignment that, similar to previous Blitz Beton assignements originates from the conviction that architecture has a strong ‘knowing through making’ component. By making with ones own hands the possibilities of the element becomes clear. With a length of 90 meters, a height of 1,75 meters, exposed to the scrutinizing glances of passer-bys from two streets and within the time limit of 6 days, we had the opportunity to test our proposition. 2001 concept, coordination & management, tutoring, publication Fondant Architecture Documenting the Blitz Beton Workshop Fondant Architecture. Atmospherics

Blitz Beton Workshop 2000 - Atmospherics This workshop intends to investigate the so-called ‘ atmospherics in architecture’. And it is a Blitz Beton Workshop. An interesting combination of fundamental architectural research that has to be executed in scale one to one as architectural objects. In other words: the most direct way to verify assumptions that arise from theory and fascinations. 2000 consultancy, coordination & management, tutoring, publication Atmospherics Documenting the Blitz Beton Workshop Atmospherics, led by Jun Aoki. Roterdam, August 2000.film & editingErik JuttenEnglish / Dutch a sense of weightThis workshop intends to investigate the so-called ‘ atmospherics in architecture’. And it is a Blitz Beton Workshop. An interesting combination of fundamental architectural research that has to be executed in scale one to one as architectural objects. In other words: the most direct way to verify assumptions that arise from theory and fascinations. And that is exactly the way this workshop will work. Jun Aoki’s introduction of the theme ‘atmospherics’ guaranties an intense exploration of our knowledge of, and assumptions about the basics of architecture. The fact that we really have to build the proposals gives us the necessary boundaries to avoid an endless series of discourse. If only because […]
